The Football Huddle

The Football Huddle, is where Colm Ahern, Andrew Knowles and Dan Murphy put their heads together and attempt to deconstruct the beautiful game, pass by pass. They might fail while doing so, but at least you can chuckle at their ineptness.

The current reigning and defending champions fall to the might of Sean Dyche's Burnley (and Stephen Ward's fancy footwork) and look very unsettled at this early stage. Man City are the team to beat after breaking down new boys Brighton, with Stephen Ireland back in the starting XI. And Man U's Summer signings paid off in their opening fixture against West Ham.

As well as that, Rumour Has It focuses on Coutinho's move to Barca, Costa's move to the couch, and Spurs' move for anyone.

The brand new Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza: In Memoriam segment has two scorchers in Cristiano Ronaldo and Joseph, himself

All this plus a genuinely BRAND NEW take on something ever-present on The Football Huddle

After a long Summer break where the boys have seen Ronald McDonald get involved in our chosen sport, among other wonderful things, they're back to discuss the forthcoming Premier League season team-by-team. Will Everton's spending see them break the glass ceiling? Will Lukaku be that secret ingredient Mourinho needs to propel his Man United side to greatness? How will Spurs deal with playing their home games away from White Hart Lane? Has Pep fallen in love with the idea of a defender? We cover every team in the top flight of England.

As well as that, the lads give you their predictions for the Premier League 2017-18 season which are sure to make us look like idiots come year's end.

Welcome back to The Football Huddle.

For the third time in four years, and the first team to win the competition consecutively, Real Madrid are champions of Europe. The lads dissect the Champions League final between the Spanish giants and Juventus including Mandzukic's wonder goal, Sergio Ramos' tactics, Zinedine Zidane's managerial prowess and Cristiano Ronaldo's transformation.

As well as that, Rumour Has It sees the boys give one last look at all the potential Summer transfers we'll be seeing over the coming months. And Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza includes a disgruntled Arsenal legend, Giggsy doing Carragher and a man who is Millwall.

All this plus Getting Bling With The Football Huddle where we tally up all of our winnings and crown a Getting Bling winner.

As always, thanks for listening to The Football Huddle and for making it the best season this podcast has ever had. Without you, we'd only be talking to ourselves and we don't like each other that much. We'll be back in a few weeks time to dissect the beautiful game and hopefully break even more Huddle records all because of you. Have a lovely Summer.

After a whirlwind season, and a controversial Alexis Sanchez goal, Arsenal came up trumps against Chelsea at the weekend and won the FA Cup Final — Wenger had to get a contract extension really, didn't he? Manchester United defeated Ajax quite comfortably in the Europa League final, cementing their Champions League status for next season. And Francesco Totti said goodbye to football and, more importantly, Roma.

As well as that, Rumour Has It focuses on all the speculation going into the Summer as we begin the countdown to DEADLINE DAY (in a few months time). And Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza sees a Walkers Crisps competition go wrong, Jamie Carragher and Danny Simpson have a spat on Twitter, and Dan Walker looking for the scoop.

All this plus Getting Bling With The Football Huddle where we go strong on the Champions League final. It's do or die, sort ofish.

This season has had a lot. Claudio Ranieri's exit and Leicester City's downfall and then resurgence. Arsenal and the Wenger In/Out saga. Big Sam keeping Crystal Palace alive in the top flight. David Moyes and the tragic comedy that was Sunderland. Both Manchester clubs failing to deliver on their promise. Spurs going one step further but not far enough. And Chelsea lifting the trophy aloft at the end of the season.

Colm and Andrew go in depth on the Premier League 2016-17, and look at each of the 20 clubs individually, assessing their year. It's a monster one, so please do enjoy.

But this isn't the final show of the season, so we do have to continue with Getting Bling with The Football Huddle...whether we want to, or not.

They made it official: After defeating West Brom 1-0, Chelsea are indeed the champions of England and deservedly so, if only for Diego Costa's celebrations. Hull City are down after a terrible performance against Crystal Palace which become yet another team that Sam Allardyce has saved. And White Hart Lane gets torn down after Tottenham Hotspur put beat Europa League-loving Manchester United.

As well as that, Rumour Has It focuses on Roberto Firmino and Paul Pogba's contracts. And Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza sees Memphis Depay wear a risky jacket, and Middlesbrough fans have enough of their own keeper.

All this plus Getting Bling With The Football Huddle where we decide the Premier League was our problem all along.

Spurs slip up against West Ham and basically ensure a Chelsea Premier League win at the London Stadium. Sunderland throw a spanner in the works at the bottom of the table as the beat Hull City 2-0 while having nothing to play for. And the most boring Manchester United and Arsenal game ever took place, too.

As well as that, Rumour Has It focuses on where Jordan Pickford and Jermain Defoe will be next season. And Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza sees a linesman get sick, a pitch that's too dry, and two sets of fans enjoying an 80s theme tune.

All this plus Getting Bling With The Football Huddle where we may need to rethink the way we do things...again.

Sunderland's fate is sealed as they're relegated with a whimper against a much better Bournemouth side and David Moyes is trying to hang onto a job. Spurs completely outclass a terrible Arsenal side in a one-sided North London derby. But like most weeks, that's irrelevant anyway because Chelsea are just so damn good.

As well as that, Rumour Has It focuses on the potential big money move to Manchester United for Antoine Greiszmann. And Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza sees Mesut Ozil get cross, Mario Balotelli get clever, and Joey Barton get done.

All this plus Getting Bling With The Football Huddle where we swear to God someone won money.

Spurs were excellent against Chelsea in an FA Cup semi-final for the ages but it just wasn't enough as the championship-winning mentality of Antonio Conte's side won out on the day. Arsenal attempt to salvage their season as they get stuck into Manchester City setting up an all-London final. And El Clasico takes the crown for the best game of the weekend as Barcelona defeat their fierce rivals Real Madrid 3-2.

As well as that, Rumour Has It focuses on Ched Evans potentially going back to Sheffield United. And Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza sees Harry Redknapp say mean things about Agbonlahor, a reaction to a handshake, and Swindon Town's Director of Football distance himself from Swindon Town.

All this plus Getting Bling With The Football Huddle where Dan was the closest, which is saying something.

Ander Herrera bosses the midfield and Marcus Rashford shows his worth as Manchester United beat the champions elect. Sam Allardyce continues to prove early critics wrong as he brinngs more points to Selhurst Park as Crystal Palace pull back a draw against Leicester City. And Ross Barkley ends his tumultuous week on a high note.

As well as that, Rumour Has It focuses on the nominees for PFA Player of the Year. And Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza sees Tony Adams do a dance, and Gianfranco Zola resign.

As bad as they are at the minute, I don't think anyone could've predicted that Arsenal would falter at the hands of Crystal Palace. Spurs continue to show their class by continuing to win, even if it's probably all for nothing. And Ronald Koeman proves that Shakespeare's Leicester aren't impenetrable by beating them 4-2.

As well as that, Rumour Has It focuses on Neymar's boots. And Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza sees Tony Adams getting a job in La Liga, while Andrew gets a specially personalised birthday message.

Chelsea fall to Crystal Palace and the resurgence of Ivory Coast's own Wilfried Zaha. Arsenal and Man City decide that neither team are worthy enough of taking all three points away from their game. And the Merseyside derby is rough on most days, but Ross Barkley was hellbent at the weekend.

As well as that, Rumour Has It focuses on the latest scandal in Chinese football. And Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza sees the only mention of the Scottish Premiership on the podcast, and Aubamayeng's attempt at a luchador.

In what was a drab 90 minutes of football, the most noteworthy thing to come out of Ireland vs. Wales was Neil Taylor's challenge on Seamus Coleman, and whether or not there should be a more sever punishment for tackles like this. England fans make headlines in their Germany friendly, while Jermain Defoe's comeback against Slovenia proves fruitful for Gareth Southgate. And Tottenham Hotspur legend Paulinho comes good for Brazil.

As well as that, Rumour Has It focuses on how will take the Netherlands manager job and whether that's Louis van Gaal. And Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza looks at a name for San Diego's new football club, Eamon Dunphy not knowing what elbows are, and the power of Arsene Wenger.

Arsene Wenger knows his future but no one else does as duelling planes fly over The Hawthorns in West Brom's 3-1 victory over the Gunners. While Man City's 1-1 draw with Liverpool was Pep Guardiola's greatest day in his life, Andrew wasn't too impressed with it. And we shine a light on what Antonio Conte has done with his exceptional back three.

As well as that, Rumour Has It focuses on whether Wayne Rooney will be off to Everton or West Ham. And Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza looks at Mohammed Anas' post-match interview slip-up, and Arjen Robben being subbed off for Bayern Munich.

All this plus Getting Bling With The Football Huddle where Andrew wasn't close, while Colm and Dan were at least half right.

Chelsea beat Manchester United in the quarter final of the FA Cup as N'Golo Kante continues to lay claim to the player of the season nod. In the Premier League, Hull City continue to defy all odds by picking up vital points with Everton castoff Oumar Niasse. And was Barcelona's 6-1 win against Paris Saint Germain the greatest comeback in football history?

As well as that, Rumour Has It focuses on former England manager Roy Hodgson being linked to the now vacant Norwich City job. And Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza looks at Jamie Carragher getting cross with his Redknapp namesake, the cancelled PSG documentary and poor planning from Arsenal.

Liverpool prove too strong for Arsenal as they school them 3-1 at Anfield. We try to get inside the head of Tyrone Mings and whether or not he meant to stamp on the head of Zlatan Ibrahimovic during Bournemouth's draw with Man United. And Kane and Alli's relationship moves to the next level thanks to a glorious goal celebration in Spurs' victory over Everton.

As well as that, Rumour Has It focuses on Arsene Wenger leaving Alexis Sanchez out of the Arsenal starting 11 and whether or not he'll go in the Summer. And Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza looks at a Russian politician's plan for football hooliganism, Jamie Redknapp forcing Graeme Sounness to do the unthinkable, and Dan being threatened by professional football players.

Leicester City had a whirlwind week as the story of Claudio Ranieri came to an end before the club went onto beat Liverpool on Monday, looking like the champions they are in the record books. Zlatan Ibrahimovic saves the day for Manchester United again with a late goal that sees them surpass Liverpool as the most successful team in English football. And Chelsea continue their dominance after a first half scare at the Liberty Stadium.

As well as that, Rumour Has It focuses on who will replace Claudio Ranieri as Leicester City manager, and Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza looks at Crystal Palace fans being idiots, a Real Madrid goodie bag, and a goalkeeper who is cross at goalline technology.

Sutton United just weren't good enough against a lacklustre Arsenal, but the main story happened on the bench as Wayne Shaw tucked into a pie as his last act with the club. Lincoln City continue the magic of the cup as their last minute winner against Burnley sees them eye up Wenger's boys. And the lads look at what's to come from this week's Champions League ties, on top of the turmoil at Barcelona.

As well as that, Rumour Has It focuses on Mark Clattenburg and his jet-setting to Saudi Arabia, and Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza includes Chilwell's fear of throw-ins, the man the segment is named after, and of course, Wayne Shaw of Sutton United and the now infamous pie incident.

Who would've thought it? — Leicester City, after the dream season of last year, go from bad to worse, but is it time to start asking questions about the players rather than manager, Claudio Ranieri? Sadio Mané's finally back and Liverpool definitely needed his talents against a lacklustre Spurs at the weekend. And Sunderland are back to their losing ways as Southampton (and future Liverpool star, Gabbiadini) run riot.

As well as that, Rumour Has It focuses on Ian Wright's apparent conversation with Arsene Wenger and some mixed signals, and Joey Barton's Banterman Bonanza includes Carlo Ancelotti's eyebrows, someone having a pint on the sidelines, and a few cock-ups on Sky.

All this plus Getting Bling With The Football Huddle where Dan came close...we swear.

AND more importantly it's the 100th episode of The Football Huddle. Naturally for such a monumental occasion, we pulled out all the stops and brought back a few old voices to commemorate the event.

Arsenal's title hopes are definitely finished with their 3-1 loss to Chelsea and, true to form around this time of the season, Arsene Wenger's future at the club is a contentious issue with fans. Claudio Ranieri is another manager that seems under threat as Leicester can't get going at all and are beaten 3-0 by Man United. And Big Sam mightn't be the man to lead Crystal Palace to safety after all as Sunderland beat them 4-0.

As well as that, Rumour Has It that West Brom leaked Saido Berahino's eight week drug ban and Joey Barton's Banterman Bonanza includes Katherine Jenkins, Gary Neville and Robbie Keane.

All this plus Getting Bling With The Football Huddle where a few bets were close...at least.

While it seems like everyone's finally coming to the realisation that the FA Cup's lustre has more or less died, the competition lives on in the results that benefit the likes of Sutton United and Lincoln City. Spurs luckily escaped the same embarrassment as Liverpool by narrowly defeating Wycombe with a late goal. The two Manchester sides took the cup a little bit more seriously than a few of their Premier League counterparts by fielding stronger sides and won their ties, respectively.

As well as that, we look at the potential goings and comings on Deadline Day in this week's Rumour Has It and Joey Barton's Banterman Bonanza goes the competitive route, this week.

While Everton are one of the Premier League's more inconsistent sides, they were impeccable against Man City, beating them 4-0 with Tom Davies coming out a superstar. Man United and Liverpool battled to a 1-1 draw where we saw the excellence of Zlatan and the disappearance of Paul Pogba. And on a more sombre note, Watford legend Graham Taylor passed away last week, but the tributes for the man during Watford's game against Boro were lovely to see.

As well as that, we look at the potential of another club in Paris and Juventus' brand new badge in TWO BRAND NEW SEGMENTS.

This was a particularly boring FA Cup Third Round as more or less all the big boys went through, but not without a few stories attached. Wayne Rooney equalled the goal-scoring record of Sir Bobby Charlton as Man United stuck four past Reading. Bournemouth were one of the few Premier League sides that were truly crushed by minnows as Eddie Howe decided to field a very weakened side. But more importantly than all that, Dan Murphy's Colls were victorious in the FA Vase.

As well as that, the world team of the year was announced and FIFA has expanded the World Cup in 2026 to include 48 teams which has divided The Huddle.

The Premier League fixture list was crazy over the past few days, but the lads try to tackle it head on, with a smile, mainly because manager of Manchester City, Pep Guardiola, would want it that way.

Despite beating Burnley, Guardiola didn't appear overly happy and questions are being asked about his mental state. Man United have been lucky lately with referee decisions, but Mike Dean certainly stole the show in their match against West Ham. And Tony Pulis has transformed West Brom into a goal-scoring, winning side, with Euro 2016 hero, Hal Robson-Kanu, even getting in on the act at the weekend.

All this plus Getting Bling With The Football Huddle where no bets were successful. Surprise.

It has been a tumultuous Christmas period for managers as Alan Pardew is no longer in charge at Crystal Palace, leading to former England man, Sam Allardyce, getting the job and fighting mascots. Bob Bradley has been given the boot at Swansea after sealing his own fate by saying the West Ham game might decide his future. And Chelsea are good, basically.
