The Football Huddle

The Football Huddle, is where Colm Ahern, Andrew Knowles and Dan Murphy put their heads together and attempt to deconstruct the beautiful game, pass by pass. They might fail while doing so, but at least you can chuckle at their ineptness.

The best game this season happened this past weekend at the Emirates stadium as Arsenal lost out to Man United and heroics from David De Gea. Manchester City sneak past West Ham United on the way to the most important game of their season. And the World Cup 2018 draw took place and saw England put in the same group as Belgium, Panama and Tunisia.

Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza: In Memoriam includes a referee at Stamford Bridge, a goalkeeper in Italy, and confusion between Crystal Palace fans.

A Willian cross saves a point for Chelsea against the might of one Mo Salah and Liverpool. Crystal Palace's form picking up as Loftus Cheek and Zaha push the club further away from the drop zone. And Huddersfield make Man City sweat until Raheem Sterling saves the day.

Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza: In Memoriam includes a tea-sipping comeback, a man in disguise, and a monkey.

Wenger went with Ozil, Sanchez, and Lacazette against bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur and it proved to be the right decision as they beat their neighbours 2-0. West Brom's 0-4 loss to Chelsea was the final straw for Tony Pulis as he was handed his P45 by the club. And Manchester United welcomed back a warrior in Paul Pogba and a lion in Zlatan Ibrahimovic as the red half of Manchester beat Newcastle by three goals.

Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza: In Memoriam includes football fans dialling 999, goalkeeping errors, and a lovely gesture from the Feyenoord faithful.

All this plus Win, Lose, or Draw where none of us saw an Arsenal win.

The 32 teams that will be at the World Cup in Russia are almost all sorted and two teams that won't be there are Ireland and Northern Ireland as both lost out to Denmark and Switzerland, respectively. So, what next for Martin O' Neill and his aging side, and where does Michael O' Neill go from here?

Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza: In Memoriam includes a commentator showing his bias and a post match interview feud that goes on and on.

Slavin Bilic is out and David Moyes is in as West Ham United lose 4-1 to Liverpool. After spending a ridiculous amount of money on him, Arsene Wenger leaves Alexandre Lacazette on the bench, only bringing him on for a consolation goal in Arsenal's defeat to Man City. And David Unsworth picks up an important win against Watford, but Everton are setting their sights high when it comes to Ronald Koeman's replacement.

Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza: In Memoriam includes a man kicking another man, a man kicking another while he's down, and a man kicking himself.

All this plus Win, Lose, or Draw where we're well and truly in a slump.

Jose Mourinho and Manchester United shush critics in the stands as they pick up a good three points against title rivals Spurs. Joe Hart is none too pleased with Antonio at the end of West Ham's game against Crystal Palace. And Leicester get the new manager bounce from Claude Puel's arrival, while David Unsworth struggles at Everton.

Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza: In Memoriam includes the man himself, and a wonderful 60 seconds of non-league.

After collapsing at the hands of Arsenal at the weekend, Everton sacked Ronald Koeman, but what can his successor really do? Dejan Lovren got the brunt of the blame for Liverpool's defensive errors against the much stronger Tottenham Hotspur. And Chelsea get past Watford thanks to goals from the inconsistent Michy Batshuayi.

Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza: In Memoriam includes a former Liverpool defender criticising the current outfit, and an doting father who is eager to teach his child how to throw a punch.

All this plus Win, Lose, or Draw where the points keep coming in.

It’s that time of the year to question Arsenal’s grit again as Troy Deeney, or “The Equaliser”, proved the pivotal man in Watford’s win. Wilfried Zaha’s comeback for Crystal Palace coincides with the club’s first Premier League win this season, and against the champions, no less. And Craig Shakespeare has been sacked by the Leicester City board.

Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza: In Memoriam includes some nose picking and commemorative shirts.

It's The Football Huddle on the road this week as Colm and Andrew are joined by original Huddler Stephen Twomey as they chat the final few World Cup 2018 qualifiers on their way back from Cardiff. Ireland pulled it out of the bag and got an important victory in Wales, and join Northern Ireland in the playoffs.

Wales are at a pivotal stage in their history as things look like they might be changing. Scotland fail to reach another tournament after earlier results in the qualifiers came back to haunt them. And England finish with six points from six, but the media still aren't happy.

All this plus Win, Lose, or Draw where betting with your heart pays off.

After a horrendous August and a sublime September, we ask if Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane is truly world class after bagging two goals against Huddersfield. Manchester City continue their dominance with a great performance against title contenders Chelsea. And Ireland FC gut out a 1-0 win against a lacklustre Everton at Goodison Park.

Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza: In Memoriam includes some talk on keeper errors, subtitle woes, and Hazard's impressions

All this plus Win, Lose, or Draw where Kevin De Bruyne helps some of the Huddle's trio get some points on the table.

We all know Liverpool are weak at the back, but is it time to ask questions of manager Jurgen Klopp rather than continuing to point the finger at the likes of Matip and Lovren. Manchester City continue to impress with a selfless Sergio Aguero and a squad worthy of rotating. And Everton's star man against Bournemouth was, the one-time outcast, Oumar Niasse.

Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza: In Memoriam includes some talk on dogs, Alan Pardew, and the finest pundit in the beautiful game.

Manchester City dazzle against Watford with stellar performances from De Bruyne, Aguero and basically everyone else. Man United didn't exactly do similar, but they did pick up all three points in the game where they welcomed back Wayne. And Arsenal were, surprisingly, better than Chelsea at the weekend.

Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza: In Memoriam includes some chatter on a few players arguing over a penalty, and Harry Redknapp, obviously.

All this plus Win, Lose, or Draw, where we hope we're not slipping into old habits.

Frank de Boer managed four games as boss at Crystal Palace, and Roy Hodgson is the new man in place to lead the London club to glory. Sadio Mane's red card against Man City split everyone as he split open Ederson's head with his boot. And it's no longer August, so Harry Kane has decided it's time to score and factored heavily in Tottenham's 3-0 win against Everton.

Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza: In Memoriam includes some chatter on Mark Hamill's allegiances, Chris Sutton on MOTD2, and the latest in a long list of handshake refusals for Mark Hughes.

All this plus we have two winners in Win, Lose, or Draw. I don't know if that happened once with the old format.

After getting 1 point from a possible 6 against Georgia and Serbia, Ireland now find themselves with a mountain to climb to get to Russia. England's results are irrelevant when the fans want performances that excite. And Northern Ireland quietly go about their business, and are ready to board the plane for World Cup 2018.

Deadline Day has come and gone, but a lot of the big name players that were linked to clubs have stayed put. Or they've turned down Chelsea.

Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza: In Memoriam sees the boys revisit the most famous pie ever eaten on live TV, a transfer that was 14 seconds too late, and the dildo brothers.

All this plus we have a winner in Win, Lose, or Draw. Again. The system works!

Mo Salah stands out in Liverpool's demolition of a horrendous Arsenal side, and questions have to be asked (for the eleventh time) of what's going on at the club. Newcastle United steamroll West Ham as Slaven Bilic's job is a topic of conversation. And was Raheem Sterling right to celebrate in the crowd after sealing the three points for Manchester City against Bournemouth?

As well as that, Rumour Has It focuses on the transfers that are still being talked about leading into Deadline Day such as Sanchez to Man City, Barkley to Spurs, and Diego Costa to anywhere.

Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza: In Memoriam serves up some delights in a pie exchange at Nottingham Forest, an Aberdeen player finding himself in the water, and Liverpool fans finding Virgil Van Dijk.

All this plus we have a winner in Win, Lose, or Draw. See. It works.

Tottenham Hotspur better shake off the Wembley jitters pretty soon or they'll find this season difficult after their 2-1 loss to Chelsea. Arsenal wish that they had Jesé's goal at the weekend as Stoke City beat them 1-0 in a result that surprised at first, but really, what did we expect? And Wayne Rooney continues to impress at his new club, as Everton get a point against title challengers Man City.

As well as that, Rumour Has It focuses on the potential transfer targets for Chelsea like Danny Rose, Jamie Vardy, and Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang.

Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza: In Memoriam has plenty in a banterful week: a Breitbart snafu, a celebration gone wrong, and poor travel arrangements.

All this plus the results of the inaugural Win, Lose or Draw, and we swear it'll change. It will change.

The current reigning and defending champions fall to the might of Sean Dyche's Burnley (and Stephen Ward's fancy footwork) and look very unsettled at this early stage. Man City are the team to beat after breaking down new boys Brighton, with Stephen Ireland back in the starting XI. And Man U's Summer signings paid off in their opening fixture against West Ham.

As well as that, Rumour Has It focuses on Coutinho's move to Barca, Costa's move to the couch, and Spurs' move for anyone.

The brand new Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza: In Memoriam segment has two scorchers in Cristiano Ronaldo and Joseph, himself

After a long Summer break where the boys have seen Ronald McDonald get involved in our chosen sport, among other wonderful things, they're back to discuss the forthcoming Premier League season team-by-team. Will Everton's spending see them break the glass ceiling? Will Lukaku be that secret ingredient Mourinho needs to propel his Man United side to greatness? How will Spurs deal with playing their home games away from White Hart Lane? Has Pep fallen in love with the idea of a defender? We cover every team in the top flight of England.

As well as that, the lads give you their predictions for the Premier League 2017-18 season which are sure to make us look like idiots come year's end.

For the third time in four years, and the first team to win the competition consecutively, Real Madrid are champions of Europe. The lads dissect the Champions League final between the Spanish giants and Juventus including Mandzukic's wonder goal, Sergio Ramos' tactics, Zinedine Zidane's managerial prowess and Cristiano Ronaldo's transformation.

As well as that, Rumour Has It sees the boys give one last look at all the potential Summer transfers we'll be seeing over the coming months. And Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza includes a disgruntled Arsenal legend, Giggsy doing Carragher and a man who is Millwall.

All this plus Getting Bling With The Football Huddle where we tally up all of our winnings and crown a Getting Bling winner.

As always, thanks for listening to The Football Huddle and for making it the best season this podcast has ever had. Without you, we'd only be talking to ourselves and we don't like each other that much. We'll be back in a few weeks time to dissect the beautiful game and hopefully break even more Huddle records all because of you. Have a lovely Summer.

After a whirlwind season, and a controversial Alexis Sanchez goal, Arsenal came up trumps against Chelsea at the weekend and won the FA Cup Final — Wenger had to get a contract extension really, didn't he? Manchester United defeated Ajax quite comfortably in the Europa League final, cementing their Champions League status for next season. And Francesco Totti said goodbye to football and, more importantly, Roma.

As well as that, Rumour Has It focuses on all the speculation going into the Summer as we begin the countdown to DEADLINE DAY (in a few months time). And Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza sees a Walkers Crisps competition go wrong, Jamie Carragher and Danny Simpson have a spat on Twitter, and Dan Walker looking for the scoop.

All this plus Getting Bling With The Football Huddle where we go strong on the Champions League final. It's do or die, sort ofish.

This season has had a lot. Claudio Ranieri's exit and Leicester City's downfall and then resurgence. Arsenal and the Wenger In/Out saga. Big Sam keeping Crystal Palace alive in the top flight. David Moyes and the tragic comedy that was Sunderland. Both Manchester clubs failing to deliver on their promise. Spurs going one step further but not far enough. And Chelsea lifting the trophy aloft at the end of the season.

Colm and Andrew go in depth on the Premier League 2016-17, and look at each of the 20 clubs individually, assessing their year. It's a monster one, so please do enjoy.

But this isn't the final show of the season, so we do have to continue with Getting Bling with The Football Huddle...whether we want to, or not.

They made it official: After defeating West Brom 1-0, Chelsea are indeed the champions of England and deservedly so, if only for Diego Costa's celebrations. Hull City are down after a terrible performance against Crystal Palace which become yet another team that Sam Allardyce has saved. And White Hart Lane gets torn down after Tottenham Hotspur put beat Europa League-loving Manchester United.

As well as that, Rumour Has It focuses on Roberto Firmino and Paul Pogba's contracts. And Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza sees Memphis Depay wear a risky jacket, and Middlesbrough fans have enough of their own keeper.

All this plus Getting Bling With The Football Huddle where we decide the Premier League was our problem all along.

Spurs slip up against West Ham and basically ensure a Chelsea Premier League win at the London Stadium. Sunderland throw a spanner in the works at the bottom of the table as the beat Hull City 2-0 while having nothing to play for. And the most boring Manchester United and Arsenal game ever took place, too.

As well as that, Rumour Has It focuses on where Jordan Pickford and Jermain Defoe will be next season. And Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza sees a linesman get sick, a pitch that's too dry, and two sets of fans enjoying an 80s theme tune.

All this plus Getting Bling With The Football Huddle where we may need to rethink the way we do things...again.

Sunderland's fate is sealed as they're relegated with a whimper against a much better Bournemouth side and David Moyes is trying to hang onto a job. Spurs completely outclass a terrible Arsenal side in a one-sided North London derby. But like most weeks, that's irrelevant anyway because Chelsea are just so damn good.

As well as that, Rumour Has It focuses on the potential big money move to Manchester United for Antoine Greiszmann. And Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza sees Mesut Ozil get cross, Mario Balotelli get clever, and Joey Barton get done.
