The Football Huddle

The Football Huddle, is where Colm Ahern, Andrew Knowles and Dan Murphy put their heads together and attempt to deconstruct the beautiful game, pass by pass. They might fail while doing so, but at least you can chuckle at their ineptness.

Liverpool prove too strong for Arsenal as they school them 3-1 at Anfield. We try to get inside the head of Tyrone Mings and whether or not he meant to stamp on the head of Zlatan Ibrahimovic during Bournemouth's draw with Man United. And Kane and Alli's relationship moves to the next level thanks to a glorious goal celebration in Spurs' victory over Everton.

As well as that, Rumour Has It focuses on Arsene Wenger leaving Alexis Sanchez out of the Arsenal starting 11 and whether or not he'll go in the Summer. And Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza looks at a Russian politician's plan for football hooliganism, Jamie Redknapp forcing Graeme Sounness to do the unthinkable, and Dan being threatened by professional football players.

All this plus Getting Bling With The Football Huddle where WE WIN (jokes).

Leicester City had a whirlwind week as the story of Claudio Ranieri came to an end before the club went onto beat Liverpool on Monday, looking like the champions they are in the record books. Zlatan Ibrahimovic saves the day for Manchester United again with a late goal that sees them surpass Liverpool as the most successful team in English football. And Chelsea continue their dominance after a first half scare at the Liberty Stadium.

As well as that, Rumour Has It focuses on who will replace Claudio Ranieri as Leicester City manager, and Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza looks at Crystal Palace fans being idiots, a Real Madrid goodie bag, and a goalkeeper who is cross at goalline technology.

Sutton United just weren't good enough against a lacklustre Arsenal, but the main story happened on the bench as Wayne Shaw tucked into a pie as his last act with the club. Lincoln City continue the magic of the cup as their last minute winner against Burnley sees them eye up Wenger's boys. And the lads look at what's to come from this week's Champions League ties, on top of the turmoil at Barcelona.

As well as that, Rumour Has It focuses on Mark Clattenburg and his jet-setting to Saudi Arabia, and Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza includes Chilwell's fear of throw-ins, the man the segment is named after, and of course, Wayne Shaw of Sutton United and the now infamous pie incident.

Who would've thought it? — Leicester City, after the dream season of last year, go from bad to worse, but is it time to start asking questions about the players rather than manager, Claudio Ranieri? Sadio Mané's finally back and Liverpool definitely needed his talents against a lacklustre Spurs at the weekend. And Sunderland are back to their losing ways as Southampton (and future Liverpool star, Gabbiadini) run riot.

As well as that, Rumour Has It focuses on Ian Wright's apparent conversation with Arsene Wenger and some mixed signals, and Joey Barton's Banterman Bonanza includes Carlo Ancelotti's eyebrows, someone having a pint on the sidelines, and a few cock-ups on Sky.

All this plus Getting Bling With The Football Huddle where Dan came close...we swear.

AND more importantly it's the 100th episode of The Football Huddle. Naturally for such a monumental occasion, we pulled out all the stops and brought back a few old voices to commemorate the event.

Arsenal's title hopes are definitely finished with their 3-1 loss to Chelsea and, true to form around this time of the season, Arsene Wenger's future at the club is a contentious issue with fans. Claudio Ranieri is another manager that seems under threat as Leicester can't get going at all and are beaten 3-0 by Man United. And Big Sam mightn't be the man to lead Crystal Palace to safety after all as Sunderland beat them 4-0.

As well as that, Rumour Has It that West Brom leaked Saido Berahino's eight week drug ban and Joey Barton's Banterman Bonanza includes Katherine Jenkins, Gary Neville and Robbie Keane.

All this plus Getting Bling With The Football Huddle where a few bets were close...at least.

While it seems like everyone's finally coming to the realisation that the FA Cup's lustre has more or less died, the competition lives on in the results that benefit the likes of Sutton United and Lincoln City. Spurs luckily escaped the same embarrassment as Liverpool by narrowly defeating Wycombe with a late goal. The two Manchester sides took the cup a little bit more seriously than a few of their Premier League counterparts by fielding stronger sides and won their ties, respectively.

As well as that, we look at the potential goings and comings on Deadline Day in this week's Rumour Has It and Joey Barton's Banterman Bonanza goes the competitive route, this week.

While Everton are one of the Premier League's more inconsistent sides, they were impeccable against Man City, beating them 4-0 with Tom Davies coming out a superstar. Man United and Liverpool battled to a 1-1 draw where we saw the excellence of Zlatan and the disappearance of Paul Pogba. And on a more sombre note, Watford legend Graham Taylor passed away last week, but the tributes for the man during Watford's game against Boro were lovely to see.

As well as that, we look at the potential of another club in Paris and Juventus' brand new badge in TWO BRAND NEW SEGMENTS.

This was a particularly boring FA Cup Third Round as more or less all the big boys went through, but not without a few stories attached. Wayne Rooney equalled the goal-scoring record of Sir Bobby Charlton as Man United stuck four past Reading. Bournemouth were one of the few Premier League sides that were truly crushed by minnows as Eddie Howe decided to field a very weakened side. But more importantly than all that, Dan Murphy's Colls were victorious in the FA Vase.

As well as that, the world team of the year was announced and FIFA has expanded the World Cup in 2026 to include 48 teams which has divided The Huddle.

The Premier League fixture list was crazy over the past few days, but the lads try to tackle it head on, with a smile, mainly because manager of Manchester City, Pep Guardiola, would want it that way.

Despite beating Burnley, Guardiola didn't appear overly happy and questions are being asked about his mental state. Man United have been lucky lately with referee decisions, but Mike Dean certainly stole the show in their match against West Ham. And Tony Pulis has transformed West Brom into a goal-scoring, winning side, with Euro 2016 hero, Hal Robson-Kanu, even getting in on the act at the weekend.

All this plus Getting Bling With The Football Huddle where no bets were successful. Surprise.

Dec 28, 2016

It has been a tumultuous Christmas period for managers as Alan Pardew is no longer in charge at Crystal Palace, leading to former England man, Sam Allardyce, getting the job and fighting mascots. Bob Bradley has been given the boot at Swansea after sealing his own fate by saying the West Ham game might decide his future. And Chelsea are good, basically.

Arsenal suffer a big set back with two losses on the bounce, meaning Wenger's biggest fans become his detractors and seek his dismissal. Kasper Schmeichel shows just how much Leicester have missed him by performing some terrific saves and helping his team get a point against Stoke. Zlatan becomes Zlatan.

Pep Guardiola's tactics weren't up to snuff against champions Leicester City as Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez and co. were on fire against his Manchester City side. Loris Karius did an interview mid-week that had English punditry up in arms, or at least the two Neville brothers, and the Liverpool keeper wasn't in great form at the weekend either as his side drew 2-2 with West Ham. And Crystal Palace and Hull City saw Robert Snodgrass take evasive action and still be awarded a penalty.

As well as that, the Champions League knockouts saw Arsenal hilariously draw Bayern, Falcao is a footballer again and Robbie Brady could be on the move.

Bournemouth do the unthinkable and sink Jurgen Klopp's Reds after being behind by two goals. Things get heated at the Etihad as Chelsea beat their title rivals 3-1 while Fernandinho and Sergio Aguero get sent off in the process. And we at The Football Huddle are proud to say we never doubted David Moyes as Sunderland begin their title charge by beating last year's champions.

As well as that, The Championship had plenty of fisticuffs too, Nice might be on top of Ligue 1 and El Clasico was shown live for those watching illegally.

All this plus Getting Bling With The Football Huddle where we may have to change the rules or something.

At the end of the game, Bob Bradley's Swansea City took the points from an under fire Alan Pardew and his Crystal Palace side that are struggling. Chelsea continue their dominance by beating their London rivals, Spurs, 2-1. And Jose Mourinho kicks a water bottle and gets sent off but it's probably a big plan to take the heat from his players, or something.

As well as that, tragedy struck the footballing world as Brazilian side Chapecoense are involved in one of the biggest disasters in football in a very long time. The Football Huddle's thoughts are with everyone involved at the club.

Arsenal were very lucky to get a point against Manchester United at the weekend, as Olivier Giroud saved Wenger's boys from defeat. Wayne Rooney enjoys a drink or two at a wedding until 5am while on international duty. Yaya Toure shocks the world by not only starting for Manchester City against Crystal Palace, but by scoring.

As well as that, Newcastle United look like they're never going to lose again, the Madrid derby is a one-sided affair and Borrusia Dortmund are back in the title race as they beat Bayern Munich by a goal.

All this plus Getting Bling With The Football Huddle where some are close, others are nowhere near and all are wrong.

Ireland have done the unthinkable and now find themselves on top of their World Cup qualifying group after a James McClean goal that saw off Austria. England's 3-0 win over Scotland doesn't tell the whole story as there is still unrest over the performance of their players against a weak Scotland. And Wales are suffering from a Euro 2016 hangover as Serbia get a point off them.

As well as that, and we know this is international week, TIM IS BACK.

Antonio Conte has moulded his Chelsea side into one of the more formidable outfits in the league as they destroyed Everton at the weekend in a pure masterclass. Liverpool did much the same to Watford, but still have frailties at the back. And Jose Mourinho has gone on the offensive while some of his players sit on the sidelines because he has a famous tennis player friend.

As well as that, Dortmund mount an attack in the Bundesliga, Spain welcomes a new challenger, and Cork City stop a Dundalk double.

Spurs are as strong as they've ever been at the back but with only Vincent Janssen up front, they're struggling to be prolific. They're neighbours, however, are currently flying up the table as Arsenal demolished Sunderland...eventually. And Liverpool continue to prove there's something to the Kevin Keegan style of football.

As well as that, not much has changed in The Championship, not much has changed in Europe, but Roberto Firmino has great teeth.

Jose Mourinho got chatty with Antonio Conte at the end of their duel in Stamford Bridge, but that couldn't stop his homecoming being a sour one as Chelsea destroyed Manchester United 4-0.  Southampton have been impeccable this season after a blip at the beginning, and added to Pep Guardiola's woes at the weekend by holding his Man City to a draw.  Leicester City and a Christian Fuchs wondergoal brings the club's Champions League back to home soil.

As well as that, Newcastle United tear up The Championship, Dundalk are the best in Ireland, and Barcelona players are allergic to water.

The debate of whether or not Theo Walcott is a striker rages on, even after the Arsenal man scores twice against Swansea to lead his team to glory. Chelsea beat champions Leicester convincingly at Stamford Bridge as Ranieri's men can't seem to get a win away from home. And Maarten Stekelenburg puts in a heroic performance to help Everton bat away Man City's attacks, as he saves two penalties to grab a point for the Merseysiders.

As well as that, Inter Milan's Icardi has the wrath of the Ultras, Steve Bruce is back in management and Wes Hoolahan does what he does best.

Ireland pick up an ugly six points against Moldova and Georgia as Wes remains The Boys in Green's main creative threat, but he can't play more than one game in a few days, still. Tottenham Hotspur prove they're a force to be reckoned with this season as Poch's men beat Man City 2-0 and Son continues to prove he's a more than worth while replacement for The King, at the minute. Francesco Guidolin becomes the first managerial casualty of the Premier League this year as his Swans narrowly lose out, thanks to the best penalty-taker in the sport, James Milner. And Burnley are unlucky to lose against Arsenal at Turf Moor, due to a Laurent Koscielny wonder-goal.

As well as that, Roberto Di Matteo becomes the latest Aston Villa manager to be thrown out the door, Barcelona and Real Madrid give Atletico an opening in La Liga, and Mario Ballotelli is never boring.

Gary Cahill and David Luiz lead a terrible Chelsea defence into a horrendous performance that saw Sanchez and Ozil take apart their London rivals. Liverpool's defensive frailties are being hidden by their attacking threat of six midfielders that can't stop scoring. And Leicester concede from corners, as the champions get destroyed by a Manchester United without Wayne Rooney in their line-up

As well as that, Sam Allardyce is no longer England manager after being caught on a hidden camera drinking a pint of wine and looking for £400k, Francesco Totti turns 40, and Cristiano Ronaldo has an awful tongue on him.

Troy Deeney and Watford stun Manchester United at Vicarage Road as they beat Jose Mourinho's team of superstars 3-1 which brings The Special One's time at the Theatre of Dreams into question. Manchester City continue to impress as Kevin De Bruyne is heralded as the second best player in the world. And Ronald Koeman may very well be the signing of the Summer as Everton go from strength to strength with their 600-game man, Gareth Barry, netting against Middlesbrough.

As well as that, Frank de Boer's employment as Inter Milan is under threat from Diego Simeone, Cavani is leading the charge to get PSG back on top and Joey Barton likes a flutter.

Pep Guardiola wins the first English battle between him and his nemesis, Jose Mourinho, but action on the pitch steals the headlines as Man City make United look like schoolboys, even with Claudio Bravo's European-inspired, seat-of-your-pants, goalkeeping. Leroy Fer of all people scored against Chelsea to help them get a draw against the London club, even if his goal could've been seen on the moon. And while West Ham's new home is a glorious piece of architecture, their football is crumbling as Watford beat them 4-2.

As well as that, moving to Liverpool was the biggest mistake of Mario Balotelli's life and Joe Hart did an impression of Claudio Bravo in his Torino debut.
