The Football Huddle

The Football Huddle, is where Colm Ahern, Andrew Knowles and Dan Murphy put their heads together and attempt to deconstruct the beautiful game, pass by pass. They might fail while doing so, but at least you can chuckle at their ineptness.

VAR was the star of the show at Anfield as West Brom beat Liverpool despite losing many, many minutes to the video assistant referee. Newport County will be heading to Wembley in their FA Cup replay as they held Spurs to a 1-1 draw. And Leroy Sane was taken out in Wales, but Neil Warnock would have you believe it was England.

Rumour Has It heats up as Riyad Mahrez puts in a transfer request, Daniel Sturridge turns down Newcastle, and the Aubameyang / Batshuayi / Giroud triangle goes down to the wire.

All this plus Win, Lose, or Draw where the table is getting tighter.

Watford lost 2-0 to Leicester City and it was the nail in Marco Silva's Hornet-shaped coffin as he has been replaced by Javi Gracia, but what's next for the man that was almost Everton manager? James McCarthy suffered a horrific leg break in a freak accident with Salamon Rondon in Everton's game with West Brom. And Liverpool's 1-0 loss to Swansea outlined where Coutinho would've been handy.

Rumour Has It looks at all the potential signings Chelsea might make over the next week, but more immediately we look at the Sanchez and Mkhitaryan swap deal between Man United and Arsenal.

All this plus Win, Lose, or Draw where we've got some winners and some losers.

Liverpool and Man City treated us to a seven goal thriller at Anfield as the home side defeated the champion elect with an in form Oxlade-Chamberlain, a sensational Firmino, and a song that we've taken into our hearts. Spurs destroyed Everton as Heung-Min Son was the humble star of a 4-0 thrashing. And after being a bit further down on their shortlist than he'd probably like, Paul Lambert is now Stoke City manager and has a serious task on his hands.

Rumour Has It starts off with one rumour confirmation as Ryan Giggs has taken the Wales job, and then swiftly moves onto Theo Walcott's impending arrival at Everton, the Sanchez/Mkhitaryan deal, and Antonio Conte's choice of sandwich filling.

All this plus Win, Lose, or Draw where men predict badly.

The FA Cup third round saw Arsenal fall to Nottingham Forest and the wannabe dog owner Eric Lichaj, Virgil Van Dijk becomes an instant hero at Anfield after helping Liverpool defeat their bitter rivals, and Erik Lamela is apparently a very nice man.

We also look at the biggest match-up of the week: Jose Mourinho vs Antonio Conte. The two managers throw barbs at each other in press conferences while we ask if it's all gone a bit too far.

Rumour Has It asks who Liverpool will replace Barcelona bound Philippe Coutinho with, whether Ross Barkley will ever reach that potential, and if Ryan Sessegnon is really 17.

All this plus Win, Lose, or Draw where the table is changing more than a popular restaurant in a hip and trendy place in town.

Are there too many matches on over the Christmas period? Perhaps. Do the TFH crew try and cover all 20 Premier League games since the last episode? Without a shadow of a doubt. They start with the sublime 2-2 draw between Arsenal and Chelsea which, despite the controversy surrounding the penalty, was a wonderful game for the neutral. Man City actually fail to win a game as Crystal Palace hold them to 0-0 draw (but don't worry, because they won the one after that against Watford).

Shane Long finally scores, Adrian Silva finally plays a game for Leicester, and Bournemouth are finally out of the relegation zone. Yeah, a lot has happened.

Rumour Has It is in full swing as Coutinho looks set to be out the door of Anfield and on the plane to Camp Nou, Thomas Lemar might be going from Monaco to Liverpool, and Robbie Keane might be returning to his boyhood club.

All this plus Win, Lose, or Draw where the form team sees daylight between themselves and the rest of the pack.

Burnley get a point at Old Trafford as Jose Mourinho complains about not having enough money to strengthen his Man United side. Harry Kane is better than Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and many others as he breaks records against Southampton. And West Ham and Bournemouth battle it out in a six goal thriller.

Adele returns with Rumour Has It as it's that time of the year where the transfer window swings wide open and players get linked to every last football club going, but most importantly we can put the Virgil Van Dijk rumours to bed.

All this plus Win, Lose, or Draw where backing the underdog pays off.

Happy new year from all of us at The Football Huddle!

Liverpool and Arsenal leave a wonderful Christmas present under the fooballing tree with a 3-3 draw. Burnley may have been beaten convincingly by Spurs, but we take some time to congratulate them on their season thus far. And goals from Harry Maguire and Jamie Vardy bag Leicester City a point against Man United.

All this plus Win, Lose, or Draw where there is zero Christmas cheer.

The Football Huddle would like to wish everyone a Happy Christmas!

Manchester City get kicked around by Tottenham, but end up the arse kickers on the scoreboard. Lanzini's fall gets debated as West Ham defeat Stoke 3-0. And there's a new Fab Four in Liverpool, riding up the charts.

Joey Barton's Banterrific Banterman Bonanza gets sparky, and bitter.

All this plus Win, Lose, or Draw where things are getting tight.

Man City are now 11 points clear of their nearest rivals in Man United after beating them 2-1 in the biggest game of the season. Jurgen Klopp doesn't take too kindly to Everton's style of a play as the Merseyside derby ends in a 1-1 draw. David Moyes tries to change the fortunes of West Ham United by beating London rivals Chelsea by a single goal.

The Champions League draw brings with it some interesting ties as Spurs get Juventus and Chelsea look to take on Barcelona.

All this plus Win, Lose, or Draw where the spoils go to the one victor.

The best game this season happened this past weekend at the Emirates stadium as Arsenal lost out to Man United and heroics from David De Gea. Manchester City sneak past West Ham United on the way to the most important game of their season. And the World Cup 2018 draw took place and saw England put in the same group as Belgium, Panama and Tunisia.

A Willian cross saves a point for Chelsea against the might of one Mo Salah and Liverpool. Crystal Palace's form picking up as Loftus Cheek and Zaha push the club further away from the drop zone. And Huddersfield make Man City sweat until Raheem Sterling saves the day.

Wenger went with Ozil, Sanchez, and Lacazette against bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur and it proved to be the right decision as they beat their neighbours 2-0. West Brom's 0-4 loss to Chelsea was the final straw for Tony Pulis as he was handed his P45 by the club. And Manchester United welcomed back a warrior in Paul Pogba and a lion in Zlatan Ibrahimovic as the red half of Manchester beat Newcastle by three goals.

Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza: In Memoriam includes football fans dialling 999, goalkeeping errors, and a lovely gesture from the Feyenoord faithful.

The 32 teams that will be at the World Cup in Russia are almost all sorted and two teams that won't be there are Ireland and Northern Ireland as both lost out to Denmark and Switzerland, respectively. So, what next for Martin O' Neill and his aging side, and where does Michael O' Neill go from here?

Slavin Bilic is out and David Moyes is in as West Ham United lose 4-1 to Liverpool. After spending a ridiculous amount of money on him, Arsene Wenger leaves Alexandre Lacazette on the bench, only bringing him on for a consolation goal in Arsenal's defeat to Man City. And David Unsworth picks up an important win against Watford, but Everton are setting their sights high when it comes to Ronald Koeman's replacement.

Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza: In Memoriam includes a man kicking another man, a man kicking another while he's down, and a man kicking himself.

Jose Mourinho and Manchester United shush critics in the stands as they pick up a good three points against title rivals Spurs. Joe Hart is none too pleased with Antonio at the end of West Ham's game against Crystal Palace. And Leicester get the new manager bounce from Claude Puel's arrival, while David Unsworth struggles at Everton.

Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza: In Memoriam includes the man himself, and a wonderful 60 seconds of non-league.

After collapsing at the hands of Arsenal at the weekend, Everton sacked Ronald Koeman, but what can his successor really do? Dejan Lovren got the brunt of the blame for Liverpool's defensive errors against the much stronger Tottenham Hotspur. And Chelsea get past Watford thanks to goals from the inconsistent Michy Batshuayi.

Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza: In Memoriam includes a former Liverpool defender criticising the current outfit, and an doting father who is eager to teach his child how to throw a punch.

It’s that time of the year to question Arsenal’s grit again as Troy Deeney, or “The Equaliser”, proved the pivotal man in Watford’s win. Wilfried Zaha’s comeback for Crystal Palace coincides with the club’s first Premier League win this season, and against the champions, no less. And Craig Shakespeare has been sacked by the Leicester City board.

It's The Football Huddle on the road this week as Colm and Andrew are joined by original Huddler Stephen Twomey as they chat the final few World Cup 2018 qualifiers on their way back from Cardiff. Ireland pulled it out of the bag and got an important victory in Wales, and join Northern Ireland in the playoffs.

Wales are at a pivotal stage in their history as things look like they might be changing. Scotland fail to reach another tournament after earlier results in the qualifiers came back to haunt them. And England finish with six points from six, but the media still aren't happy.

After a horrendous August and a sublime September, we ask if Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane is truly world class after bagging two goals against Huddersfield. Manchester City continue their dominance with a great performance against title contenders Chelsea. And Ireland FC gut out a 1-0 win against a lacklustre Everton at Goodison Park.

We all know Liverpool are weak at the back, but is it time to ask questions of manager Jurgen Klopp rather than continuing to point the finger at the likes of Matip and Lovren. Manchester City continue to impress with a selfless Sergio Aguero and a squad worthy of rotating. And Everton's star man against Bournemouth was, the one-time outcast, Oumar Niasse.

Manchester City dazzle against Watford with stellar performances from De Bruyne, Aguero and basically everyone else. Man United didn't exactly do similar, but they did pick up all three points in the game where they welcomed back Wayne. And Arsenal were, surprisingly, better than Chelsea at the weekend.

Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza: In Memoriam includes some chatter on a few players arguing over a penalty, and Harry Redknapp, obviously.

All this plus Win, Lose, or Draw, where we hope we're not slipping into old habits.

Frank de Boer managed four games as boss at Crystal Palace, and Roy Hodgson is the new man in place to lead the London club to glory. Sadio Mane's red card against Man City split everyone as he split open Ederson's head with his boot. And it's no longer August, so Harry Kane has decided it's time to score and factored heavily in Tottenham's 3-0 win against Everton.

Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza: In Memoriam includes some chatter on Mark Hamill's allegiances, Chris Sutton on MOTD2, and the latest in a long list of handshake refusals for Mark Hughes.

All this plus we have two winners in Win, Lose, or Draw. I don't know if that happened once with the old format.

After getting 1 point from a possible 6 against Georgia and Serbia, Ireland now find themselves with a mountain to climb to get to Russia. England's results are irrelevant when the fans want performances that excite. And Northern Ireland quietly go about their business, and are ready to board the plane for World Cup 2018.

Deadline Day has come and gone, but a lot of the big name players that were linked to clubs have stayed put. Or they've turned down Chelsea.

Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza: In Memoriam sees the boys revisit the most famous pie ever eaten on live TV, a transfer that was 14 seconds too late, and the dildo brothers.

All this plus we have a winner in Win, Lose, or Draw. Again. The system works!

Mo Salah stands out in Liverpool's demolition of a horrendous Arsenal side, and questions have to be asked (for the eleventh time) of what's going on at the club. Newcastle United steamroll West Ham as Slaven Bilic's job is a topic of conversation. And was Raheem Sterling right to celebrate in the crowd after sealing the three points for Manchester City against Bournemouth?

As well as that, Rumour Has It focuses on the transfers that are still being talked about leading into Deadline Day such as Sanchez to Man City, Barkley to Spurs, and Diego Costa to anywhere.

Joey Barton's Banteriffic Banterman Bonanza: In Memoriam serves up some delights in a pie exchange at Nottingham Forest, an Aberdeen player finding himself in the water, and Liverpool fans finding Virgil Van Dijk.

All this plus we have a winner in Win, Lose, or Draw. See. It works.
